How to Set Up OBS for eBay Live Streaming
Why OBS Is the Best Choice for eBay Live
If you are serious about selling on eBay Live, OBS Studio is the tool you need. It is free, open-source, and gives you full control over what your viewers see. Unlike streaming directly from a basic webcam, OBS lets you add overlays, widgets, and multiple camera angles that make your stream look polished and professional.
Whether you are selling trainers, electronics, or clearance stock, a well-configured OBS setup helps build trust with buyers and keeps them watching longer. Here is how to get started.
Step 1: Download and Install OBS Studio
Head to obsproject.com and download the version for your operating system. The installation is straightforward. Once installed, open OBS and you will see three key areas: the preview canvas, your scenes list, and your sources panel.
Step 2: Create Your Scenes
Scenes are like presets you can switch between during a stream. For eBay Live, a simple setup works best:
- Main Scene — Your primary camera view with overlays and widgets visible.
- Product Close-Up — A second camera or zoomed-in view for showing item details.
- Starting Soon / BRB — A holding screen for before you go live or during breaks.
You can switch between scenes during a stream using the scene list or keyboard shortcuts.
Step 3: Add Your Camera and Audio
In your Main Scene, click the plus icon under Sources and select Video Capture Device. Choose your webcam or capture card from the dropdown. Position and resize it on the canvas so it fills the frame nicely.
Next, add an Audio Input Capture source for your microphone. Make sure your levels are showing in the audio mixer at the bottom of OBS. Clear audio is just as important as good video when you are talking through products.
Step 4: Add Browser Source Widgets
This is where your stream starts to stand out. OBS has a source type called Browser Source, which loads a web page directly into your stream overlay. You can use this to display live stats like your sales total, viewer count, and likes.
Seller Widgets is built specifically for this. Once you have signed up and installed the Chrome extension, you get unique widget URLs from your dashboard. To add one:
- Click the plus icon under Sources and choose Browser.
- Paste your widget URL from the Seller Widgets dashboard.
- Set the width and height to match the widget dimensions (typically 400x150).
- Position the widget where you want it on screen.
The widget updates automatically during your stream. There is no need to refresh or interact with it manually.
Step 5: Configure Your Output Settings
Go to Settings > Output and set your encoder. For most sellers, the following works well:
- Output Mode: Simple
- Video Bitrate: 2500-4000 Kbps
- Encoder: Hardware (NVENC) if available, otherwise x264
- Audio Bitrate: 128 Kbps
Under Settings > Video, set your base and output resolution to 1920x1080 if your hardware can handle it. A frame rate of 30 FPS is perfectly fine for live selling.
Putting It All Together
Once your scenes, camera, audio, and widgets are configured, do a test recording before going live. Check that your camera looks sharp, your audio is clear, and your widgets are positioned where they will not block important content.
A professional-looking stream with live stats gives buyers confidence and keeps them engaged. With OBS and Seller Widgets, you have everything you need to run a polished eBay Live broadcast.
